Northwest Harvest Food Bank Receives 640 Turkeys for Thanksgiving from Foster Farms

10,000-pound turkey donation will help local residents enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal

Today, Northwest Harvest partnered with the Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank to serve more than 200 seniors a hearty Thanksgiving meal. Foster Farms supplied the turkeys for today’s meals as part of its donation of more than 640 turkeys to Northwest Harvest earlier this month. The Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank offers nutritious meals, social and fitness activities, and access to social workers for people age 55 and older.

While Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for families to gather around a meal, nearly 14 percent of Washington households are food insecure.

Gayle Johnson, Director of Community Engagement at Northwest Harvest, was in attendance with Jeannie Falls, Executive Director at Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank, to discuss the donation and speak about food insecurity in Washington and the need for food donations this holiday season. Frank Panarra of Foster Farms spoke to the company’s commitment to addressing hunger in the communities it serves.
