Numerous Coyotes Spotted Around Seattle

Last year there was an increase in coyote sightings around Thanksgiving, and this year could be the same.

SEATTLE, WA - Residents have reported numerous sightings of coyotes around the city, according to KOMO News. Coyotes have been spotted along the Gilman-Burke Trail and at Sands Point Country Club, both in North Seattle. Some residents report having lost their pets to coyotes.

According to the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, "these intelligent and adaptable animals now manage to occupy almost every conceivable habitat type, from open ranch country to densely forested areas to downtown waterfront." Coyotes have managed to persevere even as humans have encroached on their habitats.

The department cautioned that if you encounter one of these animals: "Coyotes are curious but timid animals and will generally run away if challenged. However, remember that any wild animal will protect itself or its young. Never instigate a close encounter."
