Ofo Pulling Back Dockless Bikeshare Push In U.S.

Ofo is one of three companies currently offering dockless bikes for rent in Seattle.

SEATTLE, WA - The Chinese dockless bikeshare company Ofo announced Thursday that it will scale back operations in certain U.S. cities. Ofo is one of three dockless bikeshare companies operating in Seattle along with LimeBike and Spin.

Seattle will be one of the handful of U.S. cities Ofo will remain active in, the company said. Ofo was available in about 30 cities around the U.S., as well as in countries like Australia, Russia, and Italy.

There's a proposal in front of the Seattle City Council to expand the city's dockless bikes from 10,000 to about 20,000. A recent survey of the program by the Seattle Department of Transportation shows that it has a high approval rating, and the fleet of dockless bikes grew steadily over the first six months.
