Rally Planned For Women Jailed In SeaTac, Separated From Children

More than 100 women are being held at a federal detention facility in SeaTac. There's a rally outside the facility on Saturday.

SEATTLE, WA - There are about 209 women being held at a federal detention facility in SeaTac, some put there separate from their children when they attempted to seek asylum in the U.S. at the Texas border. Their supporters will hold a rally outside the facility on Saturday afternoon.

Close to 1,000 people have expressed interested in attending the event, which begins at 1 p.m. at 2425 South 200th St. in SeaTac.

"We will be there in solidarity with the 200+ immigrant mothers being imprisoned there, separated from their children after arriving at the US-Mexico border seeking asylum," the Facebook event page reads.

The Northwest Immigrants Rights Project (NWIRP) on Thursday alerted the media about the women being held in SeaTac. Under a new Trump administration policy, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are separating parents from their children to deter border crossings.

Some of the women came to the U.S. fleeing gang violence in Central American countries.
