Scholarships For 'Loser' Students Available From Seattle's SupPop Records

The Seattle record label is giving out $15,000 in college scholarships to losers from Washington and Oregon.

SEATTLE, WA - Have you ever heard someone say that studying art is for losers? If so, we know of a scholarship program for you.

Seattle's SubPop Records is giving away $15,000 worth of college scholarships to students from Pacific Northwest states looking to pursue an arts education (or not, whatever). The purpose of the scholarship program is to "help further the education of art-enthused misfits from the [Northwest]."

There are three scholarships available - $7,000, $5,000, and $3,000 - and the deadline to apply is March 22. To qualify, you must be a graduating senior from Washington or Oregon planning to attend an accredited university or college. They prefer applicants who are pursuing an arts education, but you won't be disqualified if you're going after a real major, like accounting or nursing.

SubPop knows loser artists pretty well. The label was the first to sign a loser band from Aberdeen called Nirvana, and they've been signing losers like Wolf Eyes, The Shins, J Mascis, METZ, and Sleater-Kinney ever since.
