Sea-Tac Airport Will Get Busy Over President's Day Weekend

The airport is warning travelers that President's Day at Sea-Tac could get very busy.

SEATAC, WA - The Port of Seattle is warning that Thursday and Friday could be extremely busy at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport - so busy, travel volumes will be close to peak totals seen during the 2016 Christmas season.

On Thursday, an estimated 132,000 are expected at the airport; on Friday, the airport expects to see some 140,000 travelers. Compared to President's Day weekend 2016, that's 3,000 more travelers per day, according to the Port of Seattle.

The President's Day weekend is often busy at U.S. airports due to the long weekend and that many schools go on winter break.

Sea-Tac is offering several tips to travelers to avoid getting hung up in long lines and traffic:

  • Use Link Light Rail. The light rail line runs from the University of Washington to Angle Lake, which offers travelers coming from north and south an alternative to driving all the way to the airport. The Angle Lake station has free parking and is only one stop south of Sea-Tac
  • When driving to the airport, use opposite pick-up and drop-off points. In other words, drop people off in the pick-up area, and pick people up in the drop-off area. When entering Sea-Tac, signs will tell you which area is busiest.
  • Pack safely: by following Transportation Security Administration guidelines, you can avoid getting delayed while passing through security.

Even following these tips, the airport is still advising travelers to get to Sea-Tac early to avoid missing a flight.
