Seattle Area Traffic Impacts This Weekend
Construction work will cause delays for drivers traveling on SR 520 and SR 99 this weekend.

SEATTLE, WA — Scheduled work on State Route 520 and State Route 99 will require some extra planning for drivers this weekend.
SR 520
- All westbound lanes of State Route 520 will close starting at 11 p.m. on Friday. They will not reopen until 5 a.m. Monday, when all traffic will shift to a new configuration between the floating bridge and Montlake.
- All associated on-and-off ramps in that area will also be closed.
- The SR 520 trail across Lake Washington will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists.
- WSDOT crews will be installing a concrete barrier down the middle of the current westbound lanes, establishing two lanes for traffic in both directions using only the westbound bridge.
- The new configuration will be in place for at least three years, as crews remove the old bridge over Union Bay and replace it with a new, seismically stronger bridge.

- All northbound lanes of State Route 99 will close between Spokane Street and the north end of the tunnel at 10 p.m. Friday. They will reopen at 4 a.m. Monday.
- All southbound lanes of the tunnel will close at 10 p.m. Friday. They will reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday.
- The closures will allow WSDOT crews to repair a section of pavement and do monthly maintenance in the tunnel.
- WSDOT expects the northbound closure will add to traffic to city streets and Interstate 5.
Further surface street traffic impacts are likely downtown where five light rail stations will be closed from Friday night to Monday morning.
