Seattle Barista Attacked Inside Drive-Thru Espresso Stand

The attacked happened early Wednesday morning at the Ladybug Bikini Espresso stand along 4th Avenue South.

SEATTLE, WA - A barista was attacked by a man inside an espresso stand along 4th Avenue in Seattle's Sodo neighborhood during an attempted robbery Wednesday morning.

The attack happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday along the 2900 block of 4th Avenue South, police said. There is a Ladybug Bikini Espresso stand at that location, which is near the intersection of Forest Street.

Police said the 20-year-old barista was working when someone knocked on the door. Thinking it was her manager, the barista opened the door, and a 64-year-old man pushed his way inside and demanded the barista give up her cell phone. The man then punched the barista and tried to take her purse - but she was able to jump out the window of the espresso stand and call 911.

Police arrived at the scene quickly, Seattle police Det. Patrick Michaud said, and were able to catch the attacker. He was brought to the King County Jail on suspicion of robbery.

Espresso stands are often targets for crime. In January, police arrested a man in Snohomish County for robbing several espresso stands, including in Everett and Snohomish. Also in January, two men - one wearing underwear on his head - broke into a Parkland espresso stand looking for cash.
