Seattle Police Kill Man While Serving Warrant In White Center

SEATTLE — A 22-year-old man was shot and killed by Seattle police in White Center late Thursday afternoon as officers attempted to serve a warrant related to a Seattle homicide investigation from earlier in the year, according to the police department.

In a news briefing near the scene, assistant chief Deanna Nollette said Seattle SWAT officers and members of the department's gun violence reduction unit had deployed to a home near 21st Avenue Southwest and Southwest 100th Street. Nollette said the operation included a "BearCat" vehicle and officers used a PA system to instruct a man inside the home to come outside and surrender.

Around 5:45 p.m., Nollette said a man left the house armed with a handgun, and "preliminary reports" indicated he fired at officers. Police said three officers fired an unknown number of shots, striking the man, and medics later declared him dead at the scene.

The police department's Force Investigation Team will conduct an internal review of the shooting with oversight from the Office of Police Accountability and the Office of the Inspector General. The man killed by police will be formally identified by the King County Medical Examiner, pending an autopsy.
