Seattle School Closes After Dozens Of Students Get Sick

Leschi Elementary is closed Friday after more than 100 students and staff reported potential norovirus symptoms.

SEATTLE, WA — Leschi Elementary School will be closed Friday after more than 100 students and staff reported illnesses Thursday. Seattle Public Schools said the symptoms were consistent with those seen in norovirus cases.

During the closure Friday, the building will undergo a thorough cleaning by custodial staff. District officials said they anticipated school would resume Monday.

According to Seattle Public Schools, the district does not believe any other schools were impacted by the potential norovirus outbreak.

Norovirus symptoms include sudden nausea, vomiting, cramps, fever, and occasionally body aches, according to King County Public Health. The illness typically lasts between 24 and 72 hours, but infected people can be contagious for up to 3 days after symptoms conclude.
