Seattle Symphony Wins 3rd Grammy Award

The Seattle Symphony on Sunday night took home its third Grammy award in a row.

SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle Symphony now has as many Grammy awards as Chance the Rapper.

The Seattle Symphony won its third Grammy in as many years on Sunday for best surround sound album. The symphony was nominated for its recording of French composer Henri Dutilleux’s "Sur le même accord; Les citations; Mystère de l'instant & Timbres, espace, mouvement." The symphony was nominated for two Grammys for the recording; the other was for best sound engineering.

The Seattle Symphony released a short video about the recording featuring Conductor Ludovic Morlot:

The Sunday night win was the third year in a row the symphony has won a Grammy. In 2016, violinist Augustin Hadelich was responsible for the symphony winning a Grammy for best classical instrumental solo. That performance was also related to the Henri Dutilleux series.

In 2015, the symphony won its first-ever Grammy for best contemporary classical composition for its performance of John Luther Adams' "Become Ocean."

“We’re absolutely thrilled,” symphony President Simon Woods said when the nomination was announced in January. “We have a lot of things in our favor: a great orchestra, a great hall and an absolutely world-class engineer. Nobody makes an orchestra sound better than Dmitriy Lipay.”

The Henri Dutilleux recordings are part of a multi-year study of the composer's work.
