Seattle Thief Steals Forklift, Drives Forklift Into Ballard ATM

This is the second attempt this week in Seattle to smash open an ATM using a forklift.

SEATTLE, WA - A thief drove a forklift into a freestanding BECU ATM machine in Ballard on Friday morning. The thief apparently stole the forklift from a construction site, rammed it into the ATM, and then fled the scene.

But, it doesn't appear that the thief's cash withdrawal method worked. BECU employees told police that no money was removed from the machine. However, the ATM was knocked over and damaged. The thief also left the forklift at the scene, police said.

The incident happened along the 900 block of Northwest 45th Street around 5 a.m. A similar incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of North 125th Street and Aurora Avenue North. The thief drove a stolen forklift into an outdoor ATM, but also failed to extract any cash from the machine.
