Second Amazon HQ To Be Built Outside Seattle
The company is looking for cities to host its second location, which it estimates will cost $5 billion.

SEATTLE, WA - Amazon announced that it will invest $5 billion to build a second headquarters that will be "a full equal" to its Seattle campus. The headquarters will be somewhere in North America and will create 50,000 high-paying jobs, according to a statement from Amazon. The company said it expects the new headquarters will also indirectly create thousands of other jobs while boosting the local economy in its new location.
Amazon is now requesting proposals from cities that would like to host its second headquarters location. The tech giant that from 2010 to 2016 it helped grow the Seattle economy by $38 billion.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and city officials have reached out to CEO Jeff Bezos to discuss the possibility of expanding Amazon's presence there. The company has 200 employees working in Chicago already and recently doubled the size of its facility, Chicago Patch reported.

Currently the company has 380,000 employees worldwide and is the eighth-largest employer in the United States. It's the largest internet-based retailer in the world and recently made headlines when it purchased Whole Foods for $13.7 billion.
