Seattle's EMP Museum Has A New Name

The Seattle Center museum will celebrate the change with a free celebration this Saturday.

SEATTLE, WA - You won't be able to experience the Experience Music Project Museum for much longer.

That's because the Seattle Center museum - famous for its iconic Frank Gehry-designed building - is changing its name to MoPop - the Museum of Pop Culture. The name change is part of a larger re-branding effort, as the museum has expanded its mission to include exhibitions on film, video games, sports, and genres like science fiction and horror.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen founded the EMP in 2000, and the museum opened a science-fiction hall in 2004. MoPop houses artifacts from musicians like Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix and hosts live music events.
