Seattle's State Route 99 Tunnel Springs A Leak
WSDOT is investigating a leak inside the downtown toll tunnel, just a week after its first anniversary.

SEATTLE, WA — Maintenance crews will work overnight to determine what caused a leak inside the State Route 99 tunnel Friday afternoon, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. WSDOT said the leak was coming from above the southbound lanes and would be examined during a previously scheduled monthly checkup Friday night.

The tunnel's southbound lanes will close at 10 p.m. Friday and reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday. WSDOT said contractors would determine the source of the leak and decide whether further steps need to be taken
The tunnel opened to traffic on Feb. 4, 2019, replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct after a lengthy construction project that started in 2013 and hit several expensive snags along the way. Tolling began in Nov. 2019. The tunnel's total cost was estimated at $3.3 billion, sourced from federal, state and local funding.
