SEATTLE, WA - The very snowy February in Puget Sound isn't over yet. A highly reliable forecast model is predicting a serious snow event for the region on Sunday and Monday, with up to 6 inches possible.

That prediction is coming from the European Center forecast model. The model shows light to moderate snow moving into the Seattle area on Sunday and continuing possibly as late as midnight Monday.

"[T]he European model is historically the most accurate, time and time again. Although not perfect, it did the best of all major weather models (US, Canada) in estimating snowfall totals during early February," Seattle Weather Blog forecaster Justin Shaw said Friday.

The European model actually shows about 10 inches in the area by Monday morning, but Shaw says 6 inches is more realistic because the snow will be wet, and temperatures will be hovering around freezing.

UW meteorologist Cliff Mass also sees the potential for serious snow on Sunday and Monday.

"Sunday afternoon, a new snow event threatens, with the potential for several inches," he wrote on his blog Thursday. "Stay tuned."

The National Weather Service's forecast is a little more conservative. They are calling for rain and snow before 4 p.m., and just a 20 to 30 percent chance of snow between Sunday night and Monday.

It's a little too early to say for certain how much we might (maybe) get, but pay attention as forecasts change over the weekend - you might be dealing with yet another snow day come Monday.
