Some Cannabis Candy May Be Banned: WSLCB

The state will reevaluate cannabis edibles that might be appealing to children.

SEATTLE, WA - Certain types of marijuana edibles could may go up in smoke. The state Liquor and Cannabis board this week decided to reevaluate allowing edibles that resemble certain types of candy.

State law bans marijuana products that might be "especially appealing" to children. However, the WSLCB has approved some products that might fit that descriptions - items like gummy or hard candies and cotton candy.

"We found that we have approved some products that would meet the definition of especially appealing to children," a WSLCB document from this week's meeting read.

Some manufacturers may have to stop producing: hard candy, tarts, fruit chews, jellies, and other gummy products.

But some types of candy-like edibles will still be allowed. Marijuana-infused products not included in the ban are:

  • Chips and Crackers
  • Sauces and Spices
  • Tinctures
  • Chocolate
  • Cookies
  • Caramels
  • Mints
