SEATTLE, WA - This St. Patrick's Day, consider going beyond the Guinness.

Patch.com asked the beer experts at Seattle-based beer delivery service Tavour to compile a list of 10 great stouts made in the U.S.

Everyone knows the Guinness-style Irish stout, which is made with roasted barley and has a dark color and smooth taste. But there are other varieties of stout (some with nearly double the alcohol content of Irish stout), being crafted by U.S. micro brewers. And from milk stout to high-powered Russian imperials, these brewers are doing some delicious things.

Here are 10 unique stouts being produced by brewers on this side of the Atlantic:

Fremont Dark Star: Seattle's Fremont is known for making some of the best dark beers in the country and this is their long celebrated stout. If you can get your hands on one of their various barrel-aged versions, even better, but the Dark Star is a Pacific Northwest icon.

Deschutes The Abyss: A big beer from the Bend, Ore., legends who created Black Butte Porter, The Abyss is aged in bourbon barrels, Oregon oak, and pinot noir barrels.

Silver City Time Traveler: Our pick for the most underrated stout makers, Silver City specializes in Scotch ales and Reds, but don't miss out on the brewery's stouts.

Three Magnets Kratovo Russian Imperial Stout: We needed to include a RIS on the list and the Olympia, Wash., small-town superhero brewers. Three Magnets Kratovo is a stout bolder than most.

pFriem Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout: The highly decorated family brewers from Hood River, Ore., specialize in Belgian-style beers, but everything they put in a barrel comes out magical - their stout is no exception.
