Effort To Recall Seattle Mayor Dismissed By State Supreme Court
In a unanimous decision, the state's high court rejected a recall effort against Mayor Jenny Durkan as "factually and legally insufficient."

SEATTLE — The Washington State Supreme Court on Thursday halted a recall effort against Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, reversing earlier decisions from lower courts.
A petition organized by led by the group Recall Durkan sought to recall the mayor for "complete negligence in protecting the rights and safety of the people of Seattle," specifically in regards to her handling of the police response during ongoing protests against police brutality and systemic racism. Since early June, the mayor has also been subject to several public calls for her resignation.

The recall petition was certified for signature collection in July, and Durkan filed an appeal in August. The mayor argued the recall arose out of disagreements over policy, rather than a violation of laws of policies.
The Seattle Times reports a King County judge earlier allowed the recall to move forward twice. On Thursday, the state's highest court unanimously rejected the recall, according to an order signed by Chief Justice Debra Stephens.
