Tens Of Thousands Lose Power In Puget Sound Region
"The Big Dark" is living up to its name, as more than 45,000 lost power Wednesday due to high winds and heavy rain.

SEATTLE, WA - High winds and more than an inch of rain associated with "The Big Dark" resulted in widespread power outages, with reports of more than 45,000 customers losing electricity in the region. Crews were beginning to make progress restoring power to households Wednesday evening. Seattle City Light reported more than 9,000 customers had been affected by outages, but only 1,200 were still without power by 11 p.m.
The National Weather Service said winds topped 90 mph at Crystal Mountain Ski Area, while reaching 45-55 mph locally.
In Bellevue, downed power lines closed 164th Avenue SE between SE 43rd Street and SE 44th Place. Seattle City Light reported that crews were also working to repair a downed wire on Highway 509.
