Thunderstorms Possible In Seattle Area: Weather Service
Find out when, where, and why thunderstorms are predicted to hit Puget Sound on Wednesday.
SEATTLE, WA — One of the rarest types of Pacific Northwest weather might happen this afternoon. Thunderstorms may accompany a band of rain storms expected to strike starting around 3 p.m.
The National Weather Service says the thunderstorms are possible in the Cascades, but also the Puget Sound lowlands. Even if we don't see thunder and lightning, there's still a 60 percent chance of rain.
Why is there a chance of thunderstorms? According to forecasts, there's a low pressure system hanging off the Pacific Coast, and that will draw wind upward and create precipitation. Meanwhile, another system is clearing in the skies over the Cascades.
