President Trump Tweets Nordstrom Is 'Terrible' For Cutting Ivanka Trump Brand

Trump criticized Nordstrom on Twitter Wednesday morning for phasing out Ivanka Trump's fashion line.

SEATTLE, WA — President Donald Trump took to Twitter Wednesday morning to criticize Nordstrom over its decision to phase out Ivanka Trump's fashion brand. The White House later backed up the president's tweet against Nordstrom, calling the retailer's decision an attack on the administration's policies.

Trump said that the Seattle-based retailer treated his daughter unfairly and that she's always pushing him to "do the right thing."

When Trump tweets negatively about a company, it usually means the company will see its value drop. But Nordstrom stock was trading up Wednesday. At 2 p.m., the stock was trading at $43.68 per share, up more than $1 since the market opened.

The stock, however, did drop about 60 cents around the time Trump sent his tweet.

On Wednesday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said during a press briefing that Trump had the right to denigrate Nordstrom. The company's dropping of Ivanka Trump's products is a "direct attack" on the Trump administration, Spicer said.

Nordstrom sold shoes from Ivanka Trump's fashion line but has decided not to buy the brand this season, citing performance issues.

“In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season,” the company said in a statement to Bloomberg. Nordstrom said that it cuts about 10 percent of brands each year over performance issues.

Nordstrom has also been assailed by anti-Trump forces. The company was listed by the #GrabYourWallet campaign as a store to boycott over its support of Trump products. Nordstrom is still on the boycott list, however, because it's selling through the remaining Ivanka Trump inventory.
