SEATTLE, WA — According to the National Weather Service, wet weather and mild temperatures are expected to carry on through the weekend, with the heaviest rainfall expected to peak Friday. Forecasters said a "brief break" in precipitation is possible Friday night, but intermittent stretches of rain are in the cards through early next week.

The extended rains will continue the heightened risk of landslides and could cause flooding, especially along rivers flowing off the Olympics and North Cascades. With snow levels staying above pass elevations, forecasters said heavy rain in the mountains could bring a sharp rise in river levels Friday afternoon.

A flood watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for several counties, including King, Pierce, Snohomish and Thurston.
