WA GOP Chair Drowned In Chants Of 'Tax The Rich' During Anti Income Tax Speech: VIDEO

State GOP Chair Susan Hutchison tried to speak out against the Seattle income tax. She had trouble being heard.

SEATTLE, WA - Washington Republican Chairwoman Susan Hutchinson probably knows that Seattle isn't exactly the most welcoming place for conservative ideas. Still, Hutchison was treated to an especially spectacular show of left-wing force on Monday when she tried to hold a press conference to denounce the Seattle City Council's passage of an income tax on high-income residents.

Standing on a plaza outside City Hall, Hutchinson was surrounded by activists holding bright red signs that read, "Tax the rich." The thrust of Hutchison's message: Seattle residents affected by the tax should refuse to pay it. She also alleged that the income tax would eventually creep out of Seattle and take hold across the state.

As she was about to make that point - about tax creep - the pro-income tax activists started to speak up.

"We know it will eventually hit us, and that is..." Hutchinson trails off as the activists start to groan, and then begin chanting "Tax the rich! Tax the rich!"

The Seattle income tax was unanimously approved Monday by the Council. Individuals living in Seattle who earn more than $250,000 per year, and households that earn $500,000 or more, would pay a 2.25 percent income tax.

Backers of the Seattle income tax are expecting a legal challenge to the law, which would likely put it on hold. The conservative local Freedom Foundation think tank appears to be leading that charge.
