Washington March For Our Lives Is March 14

The Seattle Young People's Project will host a march for gun control on March 14th.

SEATTLE, WA - From Seattle Young People's Project: Since Columbine there have been hundreds of gun violence related incidents in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges across the country.

Since the events of Sandy Hook in 2012, over four hundred people have been shot on a school campus, and over a quarter of those victims were killed. This data reflects decades of lawmakers failing to put the safety of our classmates before their own partisan bickering and special interests. This is not a complex issue; we should not be dying at school.

"This is a gun control issue, not a mental health issue," says SYPP Co-Chair and Federal Way High School student Majestik Allah. "It’s about access to guns and assault weapons. The solution to this problem is not to militarize our classrooms by giving teachers guns. The solution is not to place armed law enforcement in our schools, unless you want to strengthen the school-to-prison pipeline for black and brown youth. What we need is comprehensive gun control. That's what this is about, and we will no longer accept the excuses of adults that put all of our lives at risk every day we go to school."

The Seattle Young People’s Project calls on all students in Washington State to walk out on March 14th at 10:00 A.M. We are organizing a day of action across the state.
