Weekend Shootings Kill 1, Injure 11 Around Seattle & Renton
At least a dozen people were victims of gun violence over the weekend in the Seattle area, according to police.
SEATTLE — Gunfire erupted in a half-dozen unrelated incidents over the weekend in the Seattle area, leaving one person dead and 11 others in the hospital.
Seattle police arrived at the first shooting around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the Hillman City neighborhood, where officers found two people in an alley with gunshot wounds. Medics rushed the victims, a 21-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, to Harborview Medical center in stable condition.
Less than an hour later, police arrived on the scene of a shooting in SoDo, where witnesses said several shots were fired outside a bar near Occidental Avenue South and Edgar Martinez Drive South. Police said a 14-year-old girl was shot in the leg while fleeing the gunfire, and medics rushed her to Harborview in critical condition. Investigators identified four vehicles that were hit by gunfire and collected more than 80 ammo casings from the scene.

Officers also took in a dozen guns from private security guards working in the area and will work to determine if any were used in the shooting. After the shooting, another man arrived at Harborview in a damaged car with an apparent graze wound to his head, police said.
While that investigation was still underway, 911 callers reported another shooting near the Cal Anderson Park basketball courts, where officers found a man on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds. Police said bystanders had started first aid before they arrived, and Seattle Fire medics attempted to revive him, but he was declared dead at the scene.

In Renton, police and medics rushed to the scene of a shooting at Ron Regis Park around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, where at least four people were struck by gunfire. Police said two of the victims were rushed to Harborview in critical condition, while two others were being treated for serious injuries at local hospitals. Detectives said witnesses reported a large party at the park before the shooting began.
Back in Seattle, officers were called to another shooting in the Pioneer Square area, where officers found a man with two gunshot wounds shortly after 3 a.m. Medics rushed the victim to Harborview in critical condition.
Seattle police said at least two more people were injured in separate shootings Sunday in Rainier Beach and West Seattle.
911 calls reported a shooting on Rainier Avenue South around 4:30 p.m., where officers found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound in his shoulder. Officers said the boy told them the shooting happened on Seward Park Avenue South, where detectives found several shell casings and damage to an apartment unit.
A few hours later, police were called to West Seattle's Hamilton View Point, where officers found a 28-year-old man who was shot in the shoulder. Police said witnesses described a group of men who approached and confronted the victim, then fired at him as they left the scene in a car. Detectives recovered shotgun casings at the scene.
During a news conference Monday, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell called the weekend violence "unacceptable," and reiterated commitments to improving public safety and gun safety laws.
