West Seattle Whole Foods To Open In October

SEATTLE, WA — The first Whole Foods supermarket south of I-90 is set to open in West Seattle by October, a company spokesperson said on Monday.

The Amazon-owned market chain will open its long-awaited West Seattle store in a new building at 4755 Fauntleroy Way SW, just a few blocks southeast of the Alaska Junction.

The store will open just in time to compete with a new PCC market opening north up California Avenue in the North Admiral neighborhood. That PCC closed down in 2017 to make way for a new mixed-use development, with the market set to reopen in the bottom floor. PCC says the new store will open sometime this fall.

The new West Seattle Whole Foods will be the second to open in Seattle since Amazon bought the grocer two years ago. A store near Broadway and Madison Street between First Hill and Capitol Hill opened on Oct. 30 2018.

Whole Foods has markets across Puget Sound, from Lynnwood to Bellevue to North Seattle, but the West Seattle location will be the farthest south in the Seattle area. The only Whole Foods between Capitol Hill and Portland, Ore., is in University Place.
