What's Open, Closed On New Year's Day In King County
See New Year's Day hours for supermarkets, public transportation, shopping malls, and more.

SEATTLE, WA - Before you head out on New Year's Day 2019, it's important to know what's open and closed in King County. Many stores in King County will have special hours, and public transportation will run on different schedules.
Here's what you can expect on New Year's Day:
Supermarkets: Most large supermarkets like Safeway, Fred Meyer, and QFC will be open, but some stores will have reduced hours, which vary by store.

Retail: Large retailers like Walmart and Target will also be open. Malls are open but with reduced hours. Westfield Southcenter, Northgate, and Bellevue Square will all close at 7 p.m. instead of the usual 9 p.m.
Public transit: King County Metro will operate on a Sunday schedule. Sound Transit will also operate on a Sunday schedule and there won't be any Sounder service. Remember, transit is mostly free on New Year's Eve and into New Year's Day.

Post offices: Closed
Banks: Closed
Libraries: Closed
Garbage pickup: Waste Management and Republic Services will make Tuesday pickups on Jan. 2.
Parking: No charge in Seattle.
