As an integral component of experimental design, culture medium has a significant impact on experimental outcomes.

As such a pervasive component of bioscientific research, culture medium has surprisingly changed very little since the 1960s. While lab equipment, research techniques, and emerging technologies have helped advance the field, the same primary culture medium formulations have remained relatively unchanged.
