Wildfire Near Leavenworth, Fed By Winds, Burns Through The Night
The 40-acre Spromberg Canyon wildfire started Tuesday afternoon at a log yard north of Leavenworth, according to firefighters.

LEAVENWORTH, WA - A large wildfire located north of Leavenworth burned through the night as winds in excess of 30 MPH swept through the area. The Stromberg Canyon fire was estimated at about 40 acres as of Tuesday afternoon, which prompted a level 3 evacuation order for residents in the area. The fire began around 1 p.m. at an old lumber yard, but firefighters are not sure exactly what sparked the fire.
According to Chelan County Emergency Management's latest update, firefighters were able to put out some spot fires along Chumstick Highway, but the lumber yard continued to "burn actively." About 168 homes were in the evacuation zone.
Firefighters will assess the fire Wednesday morning and update the size and scope of the fire.
