Woman Charged In Seattle Crash That Killed Brother And Sister

Investigators allege Radalyn King was high on drugs when she crashed into a family visiting Seattle the day after Thanksgiving.

SEATTLE, WA — King County prosecutors filed charges against 23-year-old Radalyn King Wednesday, alleging she was high and driving twice the posted speed limit when she hit four pedestrians walking on an Aurora Avenue North sidewalk last Friday.

Court documents identified the two people killed as 26-year-old Michael Richman and his sister 28-year-old Rebecca Richman. Their father, 63-year-old Steven Richman, suffered several broken bones and has undergone two surgeries. Rebecca's boyfriend, 25-year-old Seattle native Andrew Linden, was also injured.

Prosecutors said the Richmans were visiting Seattle from Los Angeles over the holiday, and Rebecca had recently graduated law school. In a lengthy Facebook post shared Tuesday, a friend of Michael's remembered him as a one-of-a-kind person, a talented actor, and a musician.

According to charging documents, the Richmans were headed to see the Fremont Troll Friday, when a car driven by King veered off the road, hitting several poles and signs before plowing into the victims on the corner of North 39th Street and Aurora. Investigators said the car traveled 200-feet from where it first left the road. The force of the crash separated the engine from the car, and the vehicle rolled onto Aurora.

Witnesses helped pry the windshield off the car to help the driver get out before she ran from the scene and attempted to hide. Officers said King was found several blocks from the crash and appeared to be changing clothes.

Detectives said she appeared to be under the influence of drugs and wavered between making bizarre and lucid statements. Probable cause documents said King told police she closed her eyes and crashed intentionally. According to investigators, she refused to provide her name, laughed at questions, and danced and smiled as they spoke to her.

Seattle Police said a suspected methamphetamine pipe was found inside the car. Results of a blood draw taken at the scene are still pending. Prosecutors said King did not have a criminal history, but family members told them she had a problem with "hard drugs."

Bail for King was set at $500,000. She is charged with vehicular assault, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, and two counts of vehicular homicide. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2019.
