WSP Arrested Dozens For Suspected DUI Over July 4 Weekend
Officials said at least one driver suspected of impairment killed one person and seriously injured another over the long weekend.

SEATTLE — State troopers arrested more than three dozen drivers accused of driving impaired in King County over the Independence Day weekend, including at least one crash that left one person dead and another in the hospital, according to Washington State Patrol. Trooper Rick Johnson on Tuesday said 42 people were arrested just in King County.
In the fatal crash, troopers said the driver of a Ford F-350 was spreading north on Interstate 5 around 11 a.m. and made an "erratic lane change," crashing into a Kia Niro and causing it to roll. According to WSP the causing driver attempted to run from the scene but was caught by witnesses and arrested by troopers on suspicion of impairment.
Medics rushed the Kia's driver, a 71-year-old woman, and passenger, an 81-year-old man, to Harborview Medical Center, and the man was pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said. The woman suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized. The crash shut down all northbound lanes for more than an hour.
