WSP Makes Arrests In 2 Recent Shootings On Interstate 5

Washington State Patrol said troopers have responded to 20 shootings on King County freeways so far this year, up from 12 in all of 2021.

SEATTLE — Washington State Patrol on Wednesday announced arrests in two recent shootings on Interstate 5, in what has already proven to be a busy year on King County freeways.

WSP shared updates on both cases Wednesday, beginning with an arrest made in a March 28 shooting in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the West Seattle Bridge, which left one person injured. The victim reported several shots fired at their vehicle from a red Honda Civic and suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Detectives identified the suspected shooter, filed charges and issued an arrest warrant on March 31. WSP named the suspect in the case as Hamza Osman, 26, of Seattle, and arrested him Tuesday in South Seattle. He faces criminal charges of first-degree assault and drive-by shooting.

In the other shooting, WSP responded to multiple 911 calls Saturday afternoon reporting gunfire between two vehicles heading northbound on Interstate 5 in Tukwila. Troopers at the scene learned the two vehicles hit another driver. Two of the suspects fled on foot and were caught by Tukwila officers, and the driver of the second vehicle was arrested at the scene.

Troopers said a K-9 track turned up a backpack containing two rifles and a handgun. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, and three men were booked into the King County Jail. WSP said one man, Lawrence Isaiah Groce, remained in custody and faces a separate first-degree murder charge out of Benton County, connected to a case being investigated in Kennewick.
