You Voted: Seattle NHL Team Name Top Picks

SEATTLE, WA - It's time to unleash the Kraken, apparently. Two weeks ago, we asked you to vote on a name for the impending Seattle NHL team, and the overwhelming favorite was the mythical octopus-like monster from the deep, the Kraken.

But a couple of other names were favorites, including the Seattle Freeze and, of course, the Seattle Socialists. Here are the top five results from the over 300 people who voted for a team name.

• Seattle Kraken - 25 percent
• Seattle Steelheads - 10 percent
• Seattle Freeze - 9.2 percent
• Seattle Socialists - 3.8 percent
• Seattle Tsunami - 2.1 percent

What's the latest with Seattle's NHL franchise? On Monday, the ownership group working to bring a team here unveiled a $70 million plan to build a three-rink training center in the Northgate area. The NHL leadership team gave the green light to a team recently, but the full NHL board will vote on an expansion team in December.
