📰 News we're reading

1. More than 300 Shoreline School District staff could strike Monday (theolympian.com) — More than 300 Shoreline School District support staff, including paraeducators, health workers, security and secretaries, may go on strike Monday if no contract deal is reached by Sunday night. The union has already voted to strike over wages but remains open to weekend negotiations. Families and staff in Shoreline should prepare for possible disruptions to school operations next week.

2. Hanford Public Hearing (columbiariverkeeper.org) — Shoreline residents can speak directly to state regulators about Hanford's dangerous waste permit at an in-person public meeting on Sept. 23 at Ecology's Northwest Regional Office on Dayton Avenue North. The hearing is part of a rare multi-city tour, with officials seeking testimony on how to manage hazardous and radioactive waste at the nuclear site. Online and other in-person options are also available if you can't attend locally.

3. Jobs: WSDOT IT Customer Support – Journey (Project) (shorelineareanews.com) — A new WSDOT IT Customer Support – Journey position is based at the Shoreline headquarters, offering $74,268 to $99,924 annually to support Northwest Region staff and systems. If you have strong troubleshooting skills and like fast-paced, mission-driven work, this non-permanent role focuses on keeping critical transportation technology running smoothly. Check the posting for qualifications and application details.

4. WA tenants dread rental fees. Could an end be in sight? (dailyrecordnews.com) — Shoreline renters already benefit from a local ban on common-area utility charges, putting the city ahead of many Washington communities still grappling with rising rental fees. A new Seattle ordinance sharply limiting fees could become a model statewide, but earlier efforts in Olympia stalled after industry lobbying. The story explains how add-on charges—from pet rent to "benefits packages"—inflate housing costs and what protections exist now.
