Pearcasso Kid's Art Contest - Kids and their Schools/Organizations can Win up to $500 for School or Art Supplies

Kids love to play with their food, and now the Pacific Northwest Canned Pear Service (PNCPS) and SmileMakers®, Inc., reprising their popular kids’ art contest using canned pears, will reward them for their efforts. The name of this year’s contest, Pearcasso, encourages kids and their schools to create imaginative art pieces with canned pears to win individual or group awards for art and school supplies.

Chocolate Chip Pear Bars
MAKES 24 BARS
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 can (15 ounces) Bartlett pears, drained and diced
1-1/4 cup flour
2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup (6 ounce package) semi-sweet chocolate chips
METHOD
In large bowl beat together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs. Add vanilla, soda and salt; mix well. Beat in pears and flour. Stir in oats and chocolate chips until well blended. Spread evenly in lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Bake in 350?F oven 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Cool. Cut into 24 bars.
