T-Birds Send Four to Mat Classic State Championships, Finish 2nd in Team Scoring

Glacier Peak HS - It was a banner day for the Shorewood Thunderbird wrestling team at their 3A regional tournament on Saturday.

The Thunderbirds "really put it on the line," according to coach Derek Norton and who wrestled placed in the top five at their weight class.

Two Shorewood wrestlers, Matthew Floresca (112) and finished as Regional Champions.

Placing 3rd for the T-Birds were junior Alex Lee (103), senior Daniel Yun (112) and senior Kyle Floresca (135).

Senior Joel Smith placed fourth and junior David Ball placed 5th.

Shorewood placed second in the team standings behind Mercer Island, which marks the best regional placing ever in school history.

The top four wrestlers qualify for next week's Mat Classic
Championship in the Tacoma Dome and wrestlers placing fifth will act as alternates.
