Community Corner

English Ivy Removal by Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation

This Earth Day Activity, sponsored by the Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation will involve the removal of English Ivy from the trees and from the ground in parks and public spaces in Lake Forest Park.  Volunteers will gather at Grace Cole Nature Park.  Some tools will be provided, or you may bring your own.  Lunch will be provided.  Ivy removal is important to prevent the trees from being smothered by the plant, to prevent spread of this serious invasive  and to improve the wildlife habitat of the forest and the streams by allowing the native species of vegetation to prevail.

The work and the environmental education element will be supervised by the Friends of Cedar River Watershed.

We welcome organizations, businesses and individuals to participate in this Earth Day activity. All ages are welcome. Minors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Community service credit will given for students.  Please call Mamie Bolender (206) 364-4410 for further information and to report availability. We want to know if you are coming, so we can prepare for the right number of participants.  We'll e-mail a parental consent form to minors to be signed and submitted at the work party.  Dress for the weather.  Closed shoes and long sleeves are necessary.
