Purple Crane Project Delivering Hope

Shoreline's Matt Hanson is working with local elementary school students and staff to make purple origami cranes during the month of November to help raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer.

My friend Matt Hanson is kicking off a new project designed to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer - just in time for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, November! Matt is a Shoreline resident whose mom, Sharon, recently celebrated 5 years of survival with pancreatic cancer. Both Matt and Sharon are inspirations!

Matt calls his new endeavor the Purple Crane Project, and it was inspired by a poem written by a woman who died earlier this year from pancreatic cancer.

One Thousand Cranes
...
Fingers
honor commitment
with gifts of origami precision,
contemplate the recipient one thousand times.
Sacred creases sealed with oil of human hands, the seams of careful nail
until fingerprints and wishes
flutter to take flight,
carrying
prayers

-Jan Veile
1954-2011

The Purple Crane Project encourages elementary school students and staff to make purple origami cranes during the month of November to help raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. The cranes will be given to patients, family, friends and others who have been affected by this fatal disease. You can visit the Facebook page here: http://ow.ly/7gKxf

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury.

Jan Veile lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 57 on September 27, 2011 leaving behind her husband, son, and a multitude of family and friends. We ask that you fold a crane to honor Jan's life and the tens of thousands of people that have been struck by pancreatic cancer worldwide.

Please call Matt at 206-817-7970 or email him at info@purplecraneproject.com to join our campaign.
