Every day we are reminded of budget crises that threaten serious cutbacks in public service at all levels of government. Most often these cuts are in those areas that provide medical or health service. What does this mean to charity organizations that provide services without funding from any government agency? The reality is that these private organizations will be asked to carry a larger share of the burden. Volunteer organizations, such as the Washington State Elks Therapy Program For Children, do not depend on tax revenues or political posturing to achieve their objectives. The Elks therapy program provides a variety of free services to children, most of whom cannot get the care they need through any public agency. Our program is supported entirely by the generosity and fundraising capabilities of 39 Elk Lodges in the state of Washington. There has never been a shortage of children in need of our services, and today’s economic climate guarantees an increase in demand.
