Final validation of the voter initiative petition to repeal Issaquah's plastic bag ordinance enters its second day. Over 4100 signatures have been collected. To succeed, only 2549 (15% of registered Issaquah voters) must be valid. As of September 17, they were 370 short. 662 additional signatures were submitted to the City by the September 28 deadline, and are now being validated by King County Elections. Should the petition succeed, the Issaquah City Council will have 2 options: either adopt the petitioned initiative as law, or hold an election to let the City's voters decide.
