Money For 5 Acre Woods In Lake Forest Park In State Budget

LAKE FOREST PARK, WA - The $414 million state supplemental capital budget signed Tuesday by Gov. Jay Inslee includes money for Lake Forest Park's 5 Acre Woods development. The city will get $300,000 for acquisition of land for the park.

According to a press release, state Sen. David Frockt, D-Lake Forest Park, helped secure the money. A number of other projects in the North Seattle-Shoreline area will also get funding, like $500,000 for a community center in Lake City.

The Lake Forest Park City Council in September agreed to buy the 5 Acre Woods parcel from Seattle Public Utilities after years of negotiations. The 5.6-acre parcel is the largest plot of undeveloped land in the city. Seattle Public Utilities in the 1970s had planned to use the land for a reservoir.

The Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation wants to improve the parcel to include trails, handicap-accessible parking, a playground, and more.

The park is located near the intersection of 40th Place Northeast and Northeast 45th Place.
