New to North City: Easy Monkey Taphouse

New bar in Shoreline

North City doesn't have many bars in the area but this month Shoreline residents received a new option for nightlife and local beers. Easy Monkey Taphouse's owner,  Steve Erickson, got the idea to open a bar while apartment hunting in the neighborhood a few years ago. Erickson, a Shoreline native, wanted a place for people to listen to music, drink local beer and relax, he said.  Here are some details:
Address: 17537 15th Ave NE Suite B, Shoreline
21 and over only
Hours: 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday,  3 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m.-11 p.m. Saturday. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Aside from Guinness, all beer, wine and cider is brewed locally from the SODO District, Edmonds and other parts of Seattle
All beer is $5, cider is $6 and wine is $7-9
Limited menu available with appetizers and meals under $7
Future events: May 30-Bunco Game Night. $10 to play. Half of proceeds go to Parkinson's research and other half to winner.
June 6-stand up comedy/live music night

Give Back to the Community
After his wife Pat "Pinky" Erickson was diagnosed with Parkinson's, Steve and Pat decided to raise money for research to find a cure. Pat founded Pinky's Passion for a Parkin's Cure. Easy Monkey offers Pinky's Tap, with a portion donated to Pinky's Passion and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Two weeks ago Easy Monkey  hosted a fashion show and raised two thousand dollars.
Purchasing Sozo Wine donates part of the amount to feeding the hungry. Easy Monkey also houses an events center on their bottom floor. The event center can be rented for $800 a night and $1500 a weekend. Five percent of the rental fee is donated to mental illness causes. The event hall seats up to 144 people, is furnished and includes a patio and kitchen with catering capabilities.

Coming up next: Easy Monkey Taphouse is right next to Vanity Hair Studio, owned by Steve Erickson's daughter Lindsay. More to come on the father-daughter duo and their local businesses.
