Liberty, nicknamed "Libby," was befriended by U.S. troops in Iraq in 2007 when she was just weeks old. After all the comfort and peace she provided her unit in Iraq, the soldiers couldn't bear to leave her behind so they contact SPCA International's Operation Baghdad Pups.
Libby was rescued in 2008 and now lives with her one of the unit's soldiers, Dan, and his wife outside Seattle.
U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan befriend local animals as a way to help cope with the emotional hardships they endure every day while deployed in a war zone.

SPCA International launched the Operation Baghdad Pups program to coordinate the complicated logistics and transportation requirements in order to reunite these beloved pets with their service men and women back in the U.S. These important animals not only help our heroes in the war zone, but they also help them readjust to life back home after combat.
Leave no buddy behind - support the troops by saving their pets!
