Proposed City Budget on Shoreline Council Agenda

Study items also include Census, jail services report and Sound Transit Light Rail guiding principles

The Shoreline City Council will hear about the city's proposed 2012 budget from city manager Julie Underwood at tonight's Council meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The proposed budget of $54.7 million in expenditures is much less than last year's proposed budget of $69 million. 

Total 2011 expenditures are estimated at $84.7 million.

The proposed budget leaves an ending fund balance of $17 million, $4.3 million less than the beginning fund balance. 

The Council will hear an updated report on 2010 Census results from senior planner Steve Cohn and human services planner George Smith. Popluation held steady in Shoreline from 2000 to 2010.

Public input is being sought, regarding a report on the Sound Transit Light Rail guiding principles that will be made by public works director Mark Relph, transportation services manager Kirk McKinley and senior transportation planner Alicia McIntire. Two Light Rail stops are planned for Shoreline near 145th St. and 185th St. 

Also, an update on the city's jail services contracts with Snohomish County and King County will made by intergovernmental relations manager Scott MacColl. Shoreline has been sending most of its arrested individuals charged with misdemeanors to Snohomish County Jail this year, upon signing a new deal with them late last year.  

The meeting is scheudled to adjourn at 9:10 p.m.
