Shoreline Council Ends City Library Board

SHORELINE, WA - The City Council last week voted to disband the city's Library Board, a volunteer advisory group that acted as a liaison between the council and the King County Library System. The board, which meets about six times per year, has been much less active in recent years: since 2012, it has only advised the council on a library issue one time.

The Shoreline City Council made the decision to end the board at its May 15 meeting. The move was made with input from the existing Library Board members, the King County Library System, and other city staff.

The Shoreline Library Board was created in 1996. Its most recent members include: Eileen Wood-Lim, Chloe Horning, Lisa Oberg, Brooke Shirts, Robert Smith, Karen Thielke, and Steven Watson; plus two youth members, Elrohi Shuge and Ella McGuigan.

The Shoreline Parks and Recreation and Cultural Services Board will handle any library-related issues in the future, according to the city.
