SHORELINE, WA - The April events calendar for Shoreline is out, and it's packed with local activities ranging from park work parties to Earth Day celebrations.
Richmond Beach Saltwater Park Volunteer Work Party, April 1, 10 am – 2 pm
2021 NW 190th Street
Join the Friends of Saltwater Park as we remove the aggressive weeds, Scotch Broom and Himalayan Blackberry from this beach park. For more information about this work party event, please contact project coordinator Diane Brewster. If you would like to know more about the City of Shoreline’s efforts to restore the natural vegetation at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, contact Maureen Colaizzi, Park Project Coordinator.
Spring Plant Swap, April 2, 12 – 4 pm
Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, 20312 15th Avenue NW
Bring your extra plants in and exchange with other gardeners. You may bring divisions, extra plants, whatever you have! No invasive or weedy plants. Please label your or provide a description. If you donate plants to the swap, you'll get a box to fill up for free! Boxes are $5, Proceeds benefit the Garden.
Celebration of National Poetry Month, April 3, 7 – 10 pm
Darrell’s Tavern, 18041 Aurora Avenue N
As an art form of language and the distilled essences of the human condition, poetry offers a primary window into the aspirations and sorrows of our times. In recognition of National Poetry Month in April, the Shoreline Public Art Program welcomes seven poets from around the Puget Sound region for a night of reflection. The event is free, but limited to 21 and over.
LGBTQ Potluck, Thursday, April 6, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Shoreline Room, Shoreline Center, 18560 1st Ave NE
Join members of your Shoreline Schools community in support of LGBTQ families as we share a meal of fun activities for all ages! Those attending are asked to bring a potluck dish. Questions? Call 206-363-4217, or RSVP online.
Friday Afternoon at the Movies, April 7, 1:00-4 pm
Shoreline-LFP Senior Center, 18560 1st Ave NE
Hosted by Scarecrow Video, the Silver Cinema Project is an opportunity to enjoy and then discuss golden age Hollywood classics. Each screening is introduced by a Scarecrow expert. This month’s film is Philadelphia Story, a witty romantic comedy starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. The movie and popcorn are free, with soft drinks available for a small fee.
Ridgecrest Loop Walk, Saturday, April 8th, 9:00am
Meet at Crest Theater, 16505 5th Ave NE
Join a springtime walk around the Ridgecrest Neighborhood. Rain or shine we’ll explore the streets connecting the business district with Hamlin Park and Paramount School Park. If it’s raining, bring your umbrella. Bring some money, we’ll stop for coffee after at Café Aroma. Preview Shoreline Walks through the year.
Spring Nature Journal Workshop, April 8, 2 – 3:30 pm

Learn how to draw and paint some of the highlights of the spring season in this fun introduction to journals, sketching and painting with artist Molly Hashimoto.

Green Building Speakers Series: Power of Zero, April 11, 7 – 9 pm

Brad Liljequist, Net Zero Energy Program Director, International Living Future Institute
will showcase net zero energy buildings (which generate enough energy to fulfill their own needs) from around the world, including examples in the Puget Sound region. This is the first in a series of monthly presentations.
How to Henna, April 12, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Shoreline Center, Horizon Room, 18560 1st Avenue NE
Learn about the history of henna in this Create and Make Workshop sponsored by the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council. With help from artist Antoinette Hippe, you will be prepared to create your own henna designs. No previous experience necessary. We supply the materials, you supply the imaginative spirit. Registration required.
Civil Disagreement, April 12, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

In our increasingly polarized political environment, how can we have civil discussions with others with whom we have profound disagreements? Learn from Dr. David E. Smith how to have meaningful, civil conversations with others, by building bridges and not walls between ourselves and those with whom we disagree.
Ronald Bog Park Public Meeting, April 13, 7 – 9 pm

Please join Sound Transit and the City of Shoreline for a neighborhood conversation on the proposed compensatory mitigation site for Lynnwood Link light rail impacts to wetlands located within the Twin Ponds sub-basin of the Thornton Creek watershed. The City and Sound Transit are proposing that a portion of Ronald Bog Park be the mitigation site. Elements of the mitigation site include creating new wetlands and buffer, rebuilding the shelter in a new location, relocating the “Kiss” sculpture and trail improvements in the eastern part of the park.
Karaoke/Bingo, April 14, door at 6, games begin at 7 pm

Celebrate the 7th Anniversary of this fun Shoreline tradition with cake and champagne. This is a fundraiser for the Senior Center and you have to be 21 to attend. Make your reservation online by April12.
Book Arts: Make an Altered Book, April 15, 2 – 4 pm
Richmond Beach Library, 19601 21st Avenue NW
Ages 14 and older, adults welcome. Bring your creativity to this fun introductory class about creating altered books! You will paint and collage your ideas using mixed media techniques. Bring a hardback book for the project, all other supplies and tools provided. Registration required.
Shoreline Fire Annual Easter Egg Hunt, April 15, 1 p.m.
Richmond Beach Saltwater Park 2021 NW 190th Street
Shoreline Firefighters will once again hold their annual community event: The Shoreline Fire Easter Egg Hunt at Salt Water Park in Richmond Beach. Bring a basket, cameras and your best egg hunting skills for the event at 1:00 p.m. Parking is always limited...consider carpooling or walking and come early to make sure you don't miss it!

Hypertufa Container Class, April 22, starting at 10:30 am

The term hypertufa refers to a type of artificial stone. Create a unique, lightweight planter, perfect for your next container garden or specimen! You will leave with a small container (approx. 12" x 12") and instructions for making more. They're perfect for succulents. Register Here! (Class size is limited to 12)

2017 Earth Day Every Day, April 29, 9 am – 2 pm

Celebrate Earth Day and be inspired to make a difference throughout the year. Central Market and the City of Shoreline invite you to celebrate our Northwest environment by trying new eco-living tools and learning how to protect our climate and reduce pollution. This year, attendees will receive a 15 lb. bag of organic worm castings for your lawn and vegetable gardens. In addition, Recology CleanScapes staff will lead short walking tours to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Recology Store on Aurora at 155th. Earth Day in the Park, April 29, 10 am – 3 pm

The Hillwood Neighborhood Association invites Shoreline residents to celebrate Earth Day in the Hillwood meadow. Join others to plant native species in Hillwood Park's wetlands restoration project. Volunteers welcome!
