Shoreline Sales Tax Hike Leading In Latest Election Returns

SHORELINE, WA - Shoreline shoppers, prepare for a slight increase in prices. Proposition 1, which would increase the city sales tax, was leading in returns on election night.

If approved, Shoreline's sales tax would increase from 10 percent to 10.2 percent for a period of 20 years. There are 12 sidewalk projects the city would prioritize with the tax increase.

Here's where the measure stood as of Tuesday night:

• Approved: 9,896, 51.87%
• Rejected: 9,182, 48.13%

Shoreline would borrow bonds against the tax revenues to fund sidewalk projects including:

• 15th Avenue NE from NE 150th Street t0 NE 160th Street
• Meridian Avenue N from N 194th Street to N 205th Street
• 8th Avenue NW from North side of Sunset Park to Richmond Beach Road NW
• Dayton Avenue N from N 178th Street to N Richmond Beach Road
• 19th Avenue NE from NE 196th Street to NE 205th Street
• 1st Avenue NE from NE 192nd Street to NE 195th Street
• Westminster Way N from N 145th Street to N 153rd Street
• Ballinger Way NE from 19th Avenue NE to 25th Avenue NE
• Dayton Avenue N from N 155th Street N 160th Street
• 5th Avenue NE from NE 175th Street to NE 185th Street
• Linden Avenue N from N 175th Street to N 185th Street
• 20th Avenue NW from Saltwater Park entrance to NW 195th Street

If approved, the new sales tax rate in Shoreline would be among the highest in King County. That distinction is held by Seattle, which has a 10.1 percent tax rate.
