Shoreline Teen Hit By Semi Remains In Intensive Care

The 14-year-old was hit by a semi Wednesday while riding his bike to Shorewood High School.

SHORELINE, WA - The Shoreline teen severely injured Wednesday after being hit by a semi remained in critical condition at Harborview's intensive care unit Thursday morning, a hospital spokesperson told Patch. The 14-year-old was hit near the intersection of 175th and Aurora Avenue around 7:30 a.m. yesterday.

The Shorewood High School student was riding westbound along 175th when he was hit at the intersection with Aurora Avenue. The student was dragged for approximately 40 feet before the semi stopped, according to Shoreline fire.

The student was wearing a helmet, and first responders were on the scene immediately because the crash happened in front of fire department headquarters. The teen was conscious when he was taken to Harborview, according to the fire department.

The crash and ensuing investigation closed the northbound lanes of Aurora at 175th for about four hours Wednesday morning. The King County Sheriff's Office reported that the semi driver was not impaired at the time of the crash.
