Soccer Classic Kicks Off on Friday

60 teams, with over 400 kids are competing.

Celebrate Shoreline festivities kick off this Friday, with the start of the Celebrate Shoreline Soccer Classic, with matches held at nine fields across the city.

Running through Sunday, the classic is a joint effort between the City of Shoreline and the soccer clubs represented in the community (Hillwood, Shorelake, and FC Shoreline Select). This year's soccer classic will have 40 recreational and lower level select teams, representing 600 boys and girls from the U11 to U14 age groups.

"It's (the classic) geared at promoting the city of Shoreline, and creating excitement for the game of soccer, both in our community and now North America, as we have teams competing from California and Canada this year," said Hans Hoffman, tournament director.

Hoffman also said that the format of the tournament depends on the age group, but typically there are two groups of four teams, with the winner of each group facing off in a finals game. Semifinals and championship games will be played on Sunday. All teams participating are guaranteed three sixty-minute games, with a maximum of five.
